Meet the team:

 

Junayd Mahmood 
Junayd founded Biotikur after watching family members struggle with digestive illnesses and accompanying mental health issues for years. After working in the financial sector, Junayd decided to pivot to a purpose-driven career in health and wellness.

Junayd was previously Head of Marketing and a member of the launch team at Solaris Bank SE, helping them attract investment from Visa and BBVA and become one Europe's most successful fintechs. Junayd received his MBA (hons.) from ESMT Berlin and a BA in Political Science from Grinnell College (USA). 

Junayd is also the unusual combination of Vipassana meditator and football fan. His favorite club, Arsenal FC, tests his equanimity a little too often!

 

Augusta Modestino
Science and evidence are at the center of what we do. As the Science Lead at Biotikur, Augusta plays an important leadership role. Augusta directs product formulation as well as sets the vision for our research and development efforts. She's passionate about improving people's lives through science.

Augusta holds a PhD in Bioengineering from UC San Diego where she specialized in protein-digesting enzymes, which can escape from the gut and contribute to disease throughout the body. During her post-doc at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) she researched how the gut microbiomes of cancer patients affect their response to immunotherapies.

Augusta previously worked on several high-tech startups. At UCSD she developed a whole-blood diagnostic test that could rapidly detect protease activity. At the Cancer Early Detection Center at OHSU, Augusta worked on development of a lab-on-chip for tumor cell genetic and proteomic information detection. Augusta has lead science and engineering teams at microbiology startups Leonyte Biosystems and MiProbes.

Augusta also consulted biotech and pharmaceutical companies on M&A and technology/asset evaluation at biopharma consultancy Scitaris.
