Zinc picolinate (C₁₂H₈N₂O₄Zn)

Zinc is a frontline mineral for the gut and the immune system, and the two are deeply connected given how much immune activity is concentrated in the gut wall. Several of zinc's officially recognised roles map directly onto gut health. Zinc contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism (the breakdown of the food you eat), to normal DNA synthesis and a role in the process of cell division (how the fast-renewing gut lining repairs and replaces itself), to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and to the normal function of the immune system.

We use zinc picolinate, a well-absorbed form, to support these foundational processes day to day. It is a small inclusion with an outsized role in keeping the gut barrier and immune defences functioning normally.

Observed benefits:

  • Adequate zinc status is associated with a well-maintained intestinal lining, including tight-junction proteins and a healthy mucus layer.
  • Zinc balance is linked to normal immune activity in the gut wall.

Mechanisms: Dedicated transporters keep cellular zinc balanced; zinc supports the renewal of the gut lining and the proteins that seal the barrier, and it strengthens antioxidant and immune defences.

Safety: Moderate supplementation is generally well tolerated; prolonged high-dose use should be supervised.

Evidence strength: Strong and consistent biological plausibility, with most human data observational or from small trials.
